The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 54 prime cattle, 0 young bulls, 22 over thirty month cattle, 3,254 prime hoggs and 4,663 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 25th February, 2010.  

The 54 prime cattle saw heavyweights cheaper on the week.  Top price of 187.5p for Limousin heifers from Hallburn; British Blue 177.5p Hallburn; Blonde d’Aquitaine 173.5p Toppin Castle.  Limousin bullocks to 176.5p and 173.5p Toppin Castle; Blonde d’Aquitaine 171.5p The Gill; British Blue 171.5p Gardrum.

22 over thirty month cattle were on offer.  Limousin bulls to £1,139 Wanwood Hill.  Saler cows £937 Moss Side; Limousin £775 Nunscleugh; British Blue £709 Wanwood Hill; Black & Whites £632 Jerriestown.  Hereford heifers £705 Enzieholm.  Shorthorn bullocks £622 Moorhills.

A smaller show of 3,254 prime hoggs were forward to the usual full ring of buyers.  All classes were short of requirements resulting in trade being 9p per kilo dearer on the week.  The 849 hoggs under 36 kilos averaged 189.9p whilst the 2,408 hoggs over 36 kilos averaged 193.6p.  Top price per kilo of 282p for Beltex’s from Messrs Eastham, Naddle and to £115 per head for Suffolks from Catslackburn, £102.50 The Edge; Beltex £104.50, £96.50 Naddle Farm; North Country Cheviot £101.50 Waterloo, £88.50 Philiphaugh; Texel £101, £100.50 Newbiggin, £100 Haas Grove; Oxford £94.50 Haas Grove, £74.80 Guards; Charollais £93.50 Leaona Villa; Hill Cheviot £92.50 High Chesters, £90.50 Catslackburn; Blackface £89.80 Smalmstown, £88.50 Penchrise, £86.50 Garvilland; Greyface £89.50 Kirkland Green and Coshogle, £87.80 Nether Onsett; Cheviot Mule £84 Whitstonehill; Leicester £80.50 Newbigging Walls; Jacob £79.80 East Skeroblin; Swaledale £70 Sanders Close, £68.50 Howburn.
