The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 56 prime cattle, 0 young bulls, 31 over thirty month cattle, 5,118 prime hoggs and 5,309 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 4th March, 2010.  

The 56 prime cattle were forward.  Limousin bullocks to 182.5p Houghton House; Charolais 174.5p The Lake.  Limousin heifers 182.5p Hallburn, 181.5p Bloan Farm; Charolais 180.5p Hallburn.  Charolais bullocks to £1,232 Sceughdyke; Limousin £1,188 High Stenries.  Limousin heifers  £1,216 Bloan Farm; Charolais £1,190 Sceughdyke; Angus £1,001 Hallburn.

The 31 over thirty month cattle on offer again met a firmer trade with OTM steers to 137.5p (£715) from Messrs Ritson, Swaites and Blonde d’Aquitaine cows to 114.5p (£807.23) from G. McGimpsey & Co., D’Mainholm.  Limousin cows £930.75, £819.18 Moss Side, £778.15 Greensburn, £756.15 Moss Side; Friesian £709.13, £668.50 Woodslee, £647.93 Riddings, £643.20 Woodslee; Devon £699.15 Moss Side; Holstein £502.88 Plumpe; Galloway £387.13 Peela Hill.  Galloway steers £564.38, £541.45 Moorhills.

A large show of 5,118 prime hoggs were forward to the usual full ring of buyers.  Overall average of 189.7p.  Good export types sold at a good trade and were again in short supply.  The 1,447 hoggs under 36 kilos averaged 184.4p whilst the 3,683 hoggs over 36 kilos averaged 191.2p.  Top price per kilo of 254p for Beltex’s from S. Stoddart, Hillside and to £108.50 per head for Texels from Boreland, £105.50 Pirntaton; Cheviot Mule £101.50 Tarrasfoot; Suffolk £100.50 Pirntaton, £96.50 Tarrasfoot; Beltex £100 Hopesyke Cottage, £98.50 Hillside; Charollais £99.50, £96.50 Leaona Villa; North Country Cheviot £92.50 Milton, £87.20 Raeburnfoot; Greyface £92.50 Castle Nook, £89.50 Becton Hall; Hill Cheviot £91.50 Kilbride and Mount Benger; Blackface £89.50 Sceughdyke and Westloch, £88.50 Kilbride; Leicester £83.50 Reaygarth; Swaledale £77.50 Coldshield, £75.20 Aimshaugh; Jacob £74.50 The Wreay; Zwartbles £74.50 Westhills.
