The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 59 prime cattle, 0 young bulls, 16 over thirty month cattle, 2,635 prime lambs and 5,214 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 8th July, 2010.  

A poorer show of clean cattle sold to a top of 165.5p for Limousin bullocks from Hallburn, 162.5p Dashwellgreen and The Gill.  Limousin heifers to 159.5p Beckhall

OTM cattle were only a little bit easier on the week but grazing cows remain in demand to a top of 120.5p for an Angus heifer from T.N. Cavers & Co., Sorbie Farm; Limousin 119.5p Brisco Hill.  Limousin cows to 102.5p Blindhillbush, 95.5p Sorbie; Welsh Black 97.5p Whitslade; Charolais 97.5p Linnbridgeford; British Blue 89.5p Sceughdyke; Friesian 89.5p Milton Mains, 87.5p Edenbanks; Angus 84.5p Whitslade.

A larger show of 2,635 prime lambs was forward and saw one of the best averages this week, with the sale levelling out at 162.6p.  A full ring of buyers ensured trade remained buoyant throughout and more could have been sold to advantage.  Top price of 187p per kilo for Texels from Messrs Thompson, Woodhead.  Top per head of £90 for Suffolk crosses from Brownrigg, others £80 Hermitage, £78.80 Old Wall; Texel £86.80, £85.50 Kirkton; Charollais £72.20 Patties Hill, £71.20 The Chestnuts; Zwartbles £69.50 Williamwood; Greyface £69.20 The Knells, £64.50 Hollands; Blackface £68.80 Peela Hill; Oxford £66.80, £64.20 Guards; Cheviot Mule £66.80 Newington; Bleu d’Maine £63.20 Smithy Court.

The 297 light weight lambs sold to a top of £61.80 for Suffolks from Kimmeter Green; Charollais £58.80 Station Road; Texel £58.20 Borthwick Brae, £57.80 Middle Farm and Mossband House; Bleu d’Maine £57.20 Smithy Court; Greyface £53.80 Tarnside House, £52.50 Clonrae; Beltex £52.20 Jury Park.
